The panel is made by General Electric and is called the GE Smart ConnectionCenter. I just bought a house that has the same connection center but I am clueless.

I am new to this so please be patient. I live in a new home with a GE Smart Connection Center in the basement. All of the rooms in my home have Cat5e wall jacks with two rooms - great room and office- that have two Cat5e jacks with one being red.

Why is one red? In my office I have a WRT54G router connected to a cable modem (comcast service) and an iMac. I am also using the router for a wireless network. The wireless network works great, but I would like the ability to utilize the connection center and have a wired network too. Here are my questions: 1). I assume the single Cat5e Jack can be used for either phone or data depending on what is plugged in, right? Can I run an ethernet cable from my router to the Cat5e jack in my office (the red one?) and backfeed my GE Smart Connection Center with the signal?

I'm assuming that if one port in the connection center gets data then that will be shared with all of the other ports? Am I forgetting something? Thanks for any thoughts. Okay, I need more help. I connected the router via ethernet to my wall jack. I go the the GE Connection Center in my basement and fine the line and as a test I plug it into my laptop and I get a wired connection.

Now I need to know where to plug it from there to get all of the jacks in my home receiving the signal. The panel in the Connection Center has ports that say 'Telephone Interface Module' and some jacks below that with the name 'Telephone Distribution Module'. Best that I can tell the company phone lines plug into the 'In' port next to the 'Telephone Interface Module'.

Looks like there is a jumper cable from port five down to the Telephone Distribution Module'. I tried pugging in the data cable to an open port on the Distribution Module and plugged in one of the other lines to the laptop and no connection. I have probably given more information that is needed, but I just need to know where to plug the data line to get data to the other jacks in the home. Thanks in advance.
